White-label WhatsApp API for Sri Lankan SMS resellers, web developers and digital agencies

How a Sri Lankan SMS reseller, web developer or agency can sell WhatsApp under its own name: branding, billing clients without Stripe, margins at the new Sri Lankan rates, and onboarding a client.

By Broadchat teamPublished 8 min read

In short

Broadchat lets a Sri Lankan company sell the official WhatsApp Business API as its own product, with its logo, domain, LKR plans and its own client billing. You pay Broadchat a cost price per client account, quoted on request, and keep what you charge above it. Clients prepay messaging at rates you set over Meta's base rate, and the messaging margin is settled to your partner wallet every week. Stripe does not open accounts for companies registered in Sri Lanka, so most Sri Lankan partners collect by bank transfer, recorded in the panel, or through their own local gateway outside it.

Key takeaways

  • Clients see only your brand: name, logo, colours, login page, your own domain, and email and SMS from your own senders.
  • You price plans in LKR; inside the panel, Sri Lankan clients pay by bank transfer with proof of payment, and anything collected through your own local gateway is credited from the partner panel.
  • Broadchat charges a cost price per client account per billing cycle from a prepaid partner wallet you top up by international bank transfer; the price is quoted on request.
  • Your messaging margin is your rate minus Meta's base rate, settled weekly into your partner wallet.
  • At US$0.0020 per utility message to Sri Lankan numbers (Meta rate card effective 1 Oct 2026), reminders are cheap enough to sell as a bundle with a fixed monthly plan.

Why now is a good time to resell WhatsApp in Sri Lanka

The October 2026 price change shifted the arithmetic for Sri Lankan resellers. A utility template to a +94 number now costs Meta's US$0.0020 (Meta rate card effective 1 Oct 2026), roughly what a local bulk SMS costs, but it carries a PDF, buttons and Sinhala or Tamil text in one message. SME owners who buy SMS from you today will start asking about WhatsApp, and published local plans run from a few thousand to tens of thousands of LKR a month (see WhatsApp API providers in Sri Lanka compared), which leaves room for a partner with its own pricing and local support.

This page is written for:

  • Bulk-SMS resellers whose clients want receipts and reminders with buttons and attachments. Our piece on moving from SMS reselling to WhatsApp covers the switch.
  • Web developers and e-commerce builders in Colombo, Kandy and Kurunegala who deliver WooCommerce or Shopify stores and want a monthly product to sell with them.
  • Digital agencies that run Facebook and Instagram ads for hotels, restaurants and retailers and want the conversation after the click on a system they control.
  • Software houses that build systems for leasing companies, channelling centres, tuition classes or schools and want WhatsApp reminders inside the product.

If what you want to sell is an unlimited blaster to bought lists, this is not it. The official API needs opted-in contacts, approved templates and attention to quality ratings and messaging limits. Partners who succeed sell it as a managed service: they write the first templates with the client and watch the number for the first weeks.

What carries your brand

What your clients seeHow it is set
Your company name, logo (light and dark), favicon and coloursPartner panel settings; no Broadchat name in the customer panel on your hosts
Your address on the webA ready panel address on day one, then your own domain such as wa.yourcompany.lk by CNAME or A record, with SSL issued automatically
Emails and SMSSent through your own SMTP server and your own SMS gateway, so an SMS reseller can use its existing sender IDs
Plans and pricesYour plans and add-ons, with your LKR prices, billing cycles and limits
SupportTickets come to you, and you can sign in as a client to see their screen
Menus and wordingHide, rename or add menu items and edit translations

Two things cannot be branded: Meta's Embedded Signup window, which is Meta's screen, and the WhatsApp messages themselves, which show your client's display name.

How the money moves

Price with three separate flows in mind.

  1. Clients pay you. You build plans in LKR in the partner panel. Inside the panel, a client can pay by bank transfer and upload proof of payment, which you approve. Card payments in the panel go through the partner's own Stripe account, but Stripe does not offer accounts to companies registered in Sri Lanka, so most Sri Lankan partners use bank transfer, or collect through their own local payment gateway or LankaQR outside the panel and then activate the plan or add wallet balance from the partner panel. Your own payment settings, custom domain and senders come with the Growth and Enterprise partner plans.
  2. You pay Broadchat. You pay a cost price per client account for each billing cycle (monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly), taken from your prepaid partner wallet when a client buys or renews. You top up the partner wallet by international bank transfer. The cost price depends on volume, billing cycle and modules and is quoted on request; ask which currency your partner wallet is held in.
  3. Messaging runs through wallets. Each client prepays a messaging wallet at the rates you set, as a percentage or a flat amount over Meta's base rate for each country and category. Your margin, your rate minus Meta's base, is settled into your main partner wallet every week, on Sunday night.

A worked example (illustrative only)

Nuwan runs an SMS reselling business in Kurunegala with 120 SME clients: hardware shops, tuition classes and two leasing branches. In his first quarter he moves 20 of them to a WhatsApp plan priced at LKR 6,000 a month. His platform cost is what Broadchat quotes per client account; call it C. His plan margin is 20 × (LKR 6,000 − C) a month.

On messaging, Meta's base rate for a utility template to a Sri Lankan number is US$0.0020 (Meta rate card effective 1 Oct 2026). If Nuwan charges the equivalent of US$0.0030 and his clients send 80,000 utility messages a month, his margin is 80,000 × US$0.0010 = US$80, about LKR 24,000 at an illustrative LKR 300 to the dollar. These figures are invented to show the arithmetic, not a forecast. Try your own numbers in the reseller profit calculator, and read how reseller margins work before you set rates.

Clients with customers abroad

Hotels, tour operators and money-transfer agents message numbers outside Sri Lanka all the time, and Meta charges each message at the recipient's country rate. The platform prices every message by the recipient's country automatically, and you set your markup per country. Before you quote a hotel a fixed bundle, look at where its guests come from: a utility message to a German number costs US$0.0550 on Meta's rate card effective 1 Oct 2026, so a bundle priced on Sri Lankan rates would lose money. The Sri Lankan pricing page lists the main guest and Gulf markets.

Onboarding a Sri Lankan client

  1. Check the paperwork. The legal name as registered with the Department of the Registrar of Companies (or on the business name certificate for a sole proprietor or partnership), a website on HTTPS that shows that name, and the number that will become the WhatsApp number.
  2. Create the client account in the partner panel and assign a plan.
  3. Connect the number with the client through Embedded Signup, inside the client's own Meta business portfolio. The document list is in how to get the WhatsApp Business API in Sri Lanka.
  4. Write the first templates together: a receipt or confirmation (utility), a reminder (utility) and one offer for opted-in customers (marketing), in English, Sinhala or Tamil, one template per language.
  5. Import opted-in contacts with a tag recording where consent came from. This helps the client meet WhatsApp's policy and prepare for the Personal Data Protection Act, whose core provisions apply from 1 Jan 2027.
  6. Watch the first two weeks: quality rating, template status and the messaging limit, which starts at 250 people a day for a new business portfolio.

Before you sign up

  • Broadchat is not a Meta Business Solution Provider; numbers connect through Meta's Embedded Signup and messages go through the Cloud API.
  • No built-in Sri Lankan payment gateway, and no Stripe for Sri Lankan companies: client billing in the panel is by bank transfer, and other collections happen in your own systems.
  • The panel comes in 23 languages, not yet Sinhala or Tamil; templates and chatbot replies can be in both.
  • Enterprise partners get the Partner API to list client accounts and top up client wallets from their own billing system.
  • Meta decides template approval, business verification, display names and messaging limits. No one can promise them to a client.

The full feature list is on the global partner program page, and WhatsApp Business API in Sri Lanka is the page to send end clients who want to understand what they are buying.

Frequently asked questions

Can my Sri Lankan clients pay me in LKR?

Yes. You set plan prices in LKR. Inside the panel, clients pay by bank transfer and upload proof, which you approve. If you collect through your own local gateway or LankaQR instead, you activate the plan or add wallet balance from the partner panel.

Why can't I take card payments in the panel from Sri Lanka?

Card payments in the panel run through the partner's own Stripe account, and Stripe does not open accounts for businesses registered in Sri Lanka. If you also have a company in a country Stripe supports, you can connect that account; otherwise use bank transfer in the panel and your own gateway outside it.

Will my clients see the Broadchat name?

No. On your hosts the customer panel shows your name, logo and links, emails and SMS go out from your own senders, and support tickets come to you. Meta's Embedded Signup window is Meta's own, and WhatsApp messages show your client's display name.

What does it cost to become a partner?

You pay a cost price per client account for each billing cycle, taken from a prepaid partner wallet. It depends on how many client accounts you run, the billing cycle and the modules you resell, so it is quoted on request.

Can I sell to hotels with foreign guests?

Yes. Every message is priced by the recipient's country, and you set your markup per country. Check a hotel's guest mix before quoting a fixed bundle, because utility messages to European numbers cost many times the Sri Lankan rate.

Can I offer a free trial?

Yes. The partner panel has a built-in free plan you can give each client once for 3, 5 or 7 days, and you can create your own trial plans. Meta still charges for templates sent during a trial, so give trial clients a small messaging wallet or none.
