How to make your WhatsApp QR code
- Enter your WhatsApp number (India +91 is preselected) and the message the customer should send, for example "Hi, I'd like to see today's menu".
- Pick a dark code colour and a light background. The tool warns you when the contrast is too low to scan reliably.
- Optionally upload your logo. It is placed in the centre on a small background tile, and the code switches to the highest error correction level so it still scans with part of it covered.
- Download PNG for screens and social posts, or SVG for printing. Scan the result with two different phones before you send anything to the printer.
Where a WhatsApp QR code works well
- Shop counters and billing desks: "Scan to get your bill on WhatsApp" or "Scan to join our offers list", which also gives you clear consent to message the customer.
- Restaurant tables and takeaway bags: repeat orders and feedback without a phone call.
- Product packaging and warranty cards: support requests arrive with the product name already in the message.
- Visiting cards, hoardings and event standees: one scan instead of typing a 10-digit number.
A pre-filled message such as "Hi Rangoli Home, I scanned the code on my parcel" tells your team where the chat came from. Use a different message on each printed item and you can compare which placement brings the most conversations.
Print tips that prevent unreadable codes
- Size for the distance. A common rule of thumb is a code width of at least one tenth of the scanning distance: about 3 cm for a table card read from 30 cm, much larger for a poster across a room.
- Keep the quiet zone. The blank border (four modules wide by default) tells the camera where the code starts. Do not crop it or place the code on a patterned background.
- Dark on light. Inverted codes (light on dark) fail on some phone cameras.
- Keep the message short. Every extra character adds modules, so a long message gives a denser code that needs a bigger print.
- Use SVG for print. SVG scales to any size without blur; send it to your designer or printer instead of an enlarged PNG.
Static codes vs codes managed on the API
This tool makes a static code: the number and message are fixed in the pattern. That is ideal for most print jobs. If you run your number on the WhatsApp Business API, Meta also offers QR codes that are created and edited from your account, so you can change the pre-filled message later without reprinting; in Broadchat they sit in the channel's QR codes section. Either way, the customer starts the chat, which opens the 24-hour customer service window for your replies. To answer scans around the clock, connect the number to a WhatsApp chatbot that greets the customer and hands over to a person when needed.
