You will need

  • An activated Razorpay account (KYC complete) in the name of the business that owns the WhatsApp number.
  • For in-chat payments: a WhatsApp number on the Cloud API in India, and a payment configuration linking Razorpay, created in Meta's WhatsApp Manager. Meta decides eligibility.
  • The Payments module on your Broadchat plan for in-chat payments, or the Automations module for the Razorpay workflow app.
  • For the workflow app: a Razorpay Key ID and Key Secret from the Razorpay Dashboard (test keys for trials, live keys for real money).

Two ways to use Razorpay

The Razorpay WhatsApp integration in Broadchat comes in two forms, and most Indian businesses only need the first. WhatsApp Payments lets a customer pay inside the chat: you send an order message, they tap Review and Pay, and Razorpay processes the payment behind WhatsApp's checkout. The Razorpay workflow app creates ordinary Razorpay payment links, orders and refunds from automations, for cases where you want a link (for example in an invoice reminder) rather than an in-chat checkout.

WhatsApp Payments also supports PayU as the gateway; the steps are the same with PayU selected.

Example: from cart to paid order

Arjun orders two block-print bedsheets from Rangoli Home's chatbot. The flow ends with a Payment message: two item lines at ₹2,349 each, free shipping, total ₹4,698. Arjun taps Review and Pay and completes the payment with his UPI app. WhatsApp reports the result, the payment order turns Paid, and the When Payment Transaction Complete trigger starts a short flow that thanks him with the order number and tags him as a prepaid customer. If the payment fails, the When Payment Transaction Fail trigger offers to resend the request or switch to cash on delivery.

A coaching centre's fee system posts each due instalment to a workflow's Custom Webhook. The workflow runs Razorpay → Create Payment Link with Amount in paise (₹12,500 is 1250000), the parent's name and number, and Expires in (Minutes). It then sends the fee_instalment_reminder template from the payment reminder templates with Send Template Message (V2). Razorpay links are short links on Razorpay's domain: put the fixed part of the link in the template's URL button and pass the rest as the button variable. Check the format in a test response first.

Troubleshooting

  • The Review and Pay message fails to send: the payment configuration name must match WhatsApp Manager exactly, and the configuration must be active and linked to Razorpay.
  • Payment stays Pending: the customer may have closed the checkout. Payment orders can also expire if you set an expiry. Check the order in Payments → Payment Orders.
  • Key ID is rejected in App Authentications: it must start with rzp_live_ or rzp_test_. Copy it again from the Razorpay Dashboard.
  • Create Payment Link fails with an amount error: Razorpay amounts are in paise; ₹1,499 is 149900. Links must expire at least 16 minutes in the future.
  • Test payments do not settle: test keys never move real money. Switch to live keys after activation.

Payment requests are only one part of the journey; see the account alert templates and PhonePe payment links for alternatives. Agencies can offer in-chat payments to their clients under their own brand with the white-label platform.

Set it up

  1. Create the payment configuration in WhatsApp Manager

In Meta's WhatsApp Manager, open the payment settings for your WhatsApp Business account, add a payment configuration, choose Razorpay as the gateway and complete the link to your Razorpay account. Note the configuration name exactly as you typed it.

  2. Add the gateway in Broadchat

Open Payments → Payment Gateways and click to add one. Under Choose one, click Connect WhatsApp Payments. Enter a Name, type the Payment configuration name from WhatsApp Manager and select RazorPay as the Payment gateway. Save.

  3. Send a test payment request

Open Payments → Payment Orders, click Create Payment Order, choose the gateway and channel, pick a contact or enter Payer Name and Payer Mobile, set Amount (INR) and a description. The payer receives a WhatsApp order message with a Review and Pay button.

  4. Collect payments from a chatbot

In a chatbot, add a Send Message step of type Payment. Add the products with price and quantity, choose the gateway under Select Payment Gateway, and set expiry, tax, shipping or discount if needed. After sending, {{payment_reference_id}} and {{payment_amount}} are available to later steps.

  5. React to paid and failed payments

Start a chatbot with the When Payment Transaction Complete or When Payment Transaction Fail trigger, or a workflow with the Paymentz app's Transaction Completed trigger, to confirm the order or offer a retry.

  6. Optional: connect the Razorpay workflow app

For payment links and refunds in workflows, open Automations → App Authentications, click Add Connection, choose Razorpay and enter a Connection Name, Key ID (rzp_live_… or rzp_test_…) and Key Secret.

What you can do

  • Checkout without leaving WhatsApp

WhatsApp Payments sends an order message with item lines and a Review and Pay button; the customer pays with UPI apps or other methods offered by WhatsApp and Razorpay, inside the chat.

  • Automatic status updates

Payment results arrive through WhatsApp's own webhook and update the payment order to Paid or Failed, which can trigger chatbots, workflows and outbound payment webhooks.

  • Payment orders from the panel or a bot

Staff can create a payment request in Payments → Payment Orders for a phone order, or a chatbot can send one at the end of a cart flow.

  • Payment links, orders and refunds in workflows

The Razorpay workflow app can Create Payment Link, Create Order, Get Order By ID, Fetch All payments, Create Customer, Create Full Refund, Create Partial Refund, Get Invoice By ID and Create Item.

Limitations to know

  • WhatsApp Payments is an India feature: INR only, and the business must be eligible and approved by Meta. Broadchat cannot enable it for an account Meta has not approved.
  • The Razorpay workflow app has no trigger: Broadchat does not receive Razorpay webhooks for payment links. To act on a paid link, point a Razorpay Dashboard webhook at a workflow's Custom Webhook URL; Broadchat does not verify Razorpay's signature on that request.
  • The Payment Orders form accepts amounts from ₹1 to ₹10,00,000 per order.
  • Razorpay is used here for collecting from your own customers. Recharging your Broadchat wallet is a separate payment to your provider.
  • In-chat payments in Broadchat are marked as beta on the Payment Orders page.

Does Broadchat know when a Razorpay payment is completed?

For WhatsApp Payments, yes: the result arrives through WhatsApp's webhook and updates the payment order automatically. For payment links created in workflows, only if you add a Razorpay webhook that calls a Broadchat workflow.

Do I enter my Razorpay key for WhatsApp Payments?

No. WhatsApp Payments uses the payment configuration you link in WhatsApp Manager; in Broadchat you only enter its name and choose Razorpay. The Key ID and Key Secret are needed only for the Razorpay workflow app.

Which payment methods can customers use?
