What is Meta business verification for WhatsApp?
How Meta confirms a business's legal identity for its business portfolio, and exactly what that changes for WhatsApp limits, phone numbers and template counts.

Definition
Business verification: Business verification is Meta's check that a business portfolio belongs to a real, legally registered business, using documents and details such as the legal name, address, phone number and website. On the WhatsApp Business Platform, a verified portfolio can move to a 2,000 messaging limit, add more phone numbers and hold more message templates. Verification does not give a blue badge or a higher tier by itself.

How Meta business verification works
Verification happens at the level of the business portfolio (formerly Business Manager), not per phone number. You submit the business's legal name, address, phone and website, plus documents that prove them. Meta compares the details. Mismatches, such as a trade name on the website that differs from the legal name on the documents, are the most common reason for delays.

Verification is not the only route to 2,000. Meta also lists partner-led verification, and sending 2,000 delivered messages with high-quality templates within 30 days. In every case Meta reviews and may deny the increase.
What it does not do
A common belief is that verification takes you straight to 100,000. It does not. Meta's documentation says verification gets a portfolio to 2,000. Higher tiers come from the automatic upgrade: high quality and using at least half of your current limit over 7 days. Verification also does not create a badge; that is a separate application.
Worked example
Arjun's company is registered as "Rangoli Crafts Private Limited" but trades as Rangoli Home. On his first try he enters "Rangoli Home" as the legal name, and the documents do not match. He resubmits with the registered name, uploads the certificate of incorporation and a utility bill at the same address, and adds a footer on rangolihome.in that states the legal name. Once verified, the portfolio can request the 2,000 tier and add the second and third numbers his sales team needs.
