Create a message template

Create a WhatsApp template and submit it to Meta for approval, so you can message customers outside the 24-hour window.

By Broadchat teamPublished 1 min read

WhatsApp only lets businesses start a conversation, or message someone more than 24 hours after their last reply, with a template approved by Meta.

Steps

  1. Open CRM → WhatsApp Templates and click Create Template.
  2. Choose the Channel, enter a Template Name (lowercase letters, numbers and underscores, for example order_update), pick a Category and a Language.
    • Marketing: offers, announcements and promotions.
    • Utility: updates about an existing order, booking or account.
    • Authentication: one-time passcodes.
  3. Optionally add a Header: text (up to 60 characters), image, video or document.
  4. Write the Body (up to 1,024 characters). Use Add Variable to insert placeholders such as {{1}} for a name or order number, and fill in a sample value for each one. Meta uses the samples during review.
  5. Optionally add a Footer and up to 10 Buttons: quick reply, visit website, call phone or copy code.
  6. Check the live preview, then click Submit to WhatsApp. You can also Save as Draft and submit later.

Approval

  • The template shows Pending while Meta reviews it, then Approved or Rejected with the reason.
  • Click Sync Templates to fetch the latest status and templates created in Meta's WhatsApp Manager.
  • Name, category and language cannot be changed after creation. To fix a rejected template, edit its content and use Save & Resubmit.
